We plan to make a forward model design workshop next April. The purpose of the workshop is to fix all relevant design parameters of the new microwave radiative transfer program for SMILES, so that we can start the implementation afterwards. In other words, we want to have a relatively detailed outline of the new program after the workshop. Although the program is intended for use with SMILES, it should be a rather general absorption and radiative transfer program for the microwave spectral region, able to calculate in different frequency ranges and observation geometries.

I want to stress again that what we have in mind is not a conference or summer school. Rather, we want to sit together in an informal atmosphere and talk about radiative transfer algorithms on a practical and detailed level. The workshop is open to anyone who has practical experience in implementing a radiative transfer model.
